The Mansion House, built by one of the town's richest families in the 1800's, had a roller rink on the top floor. Over time, The Mansion House changed hands frequently, having incarnations as a lodging house, restaurant, and Bed & Breakfast. Now a private residence, it is being renovated to its original spendor.
The Deming Professional Building, from the same era as The Mansion House, has been empty for a number of years. Although it needs a lot of work, the interior has beautiful hardwood floors, ornate ceiling trim and big windows set in gorgeous frames. One wall is entirely covered with built-in wood cubby holes, originally serving as mail and file slots for busy offices. For sale last year, The Deming Building was purchased for $1,000. The new owner then sold it on Ebay for $8,000.
We are waiting to see what happens next.

My dad had a restaurant at the Mansion House in 1962. We lived in the basement and my dad and mom and aunts and grandmother cooked and ran the restaurant. I was three and lived there for 1 1/2 years. I have many memories and also have an original menu and several photos.
ReplyDeleteI am it’s newest owner and would love to see the menu
DeleteMy dad and step-mother ran a bed and breakfast at the mansion in the late 1990s. What a money pit! Glad someone is able to restore it.
ReplyDeleteYou say "Money Pit". That has been a concern of mine as well. I understand that some remodeling has been done in recent years. I also note it went really cheap at auction. They are trying to sell it/double their money. What can you tell me about the old mansion. I would appreciate any input you may have. Have been looking at it to possibly consider making an offer on ???
ReplyDeleteNeglected to note - The property after the remodeling was completed was sold to the people who own it/are trying to resell it now for only $150,000.
