Yes, Sophie is a male. He adopted us as a shy stray, who wouldn't let us get close to him for many months. We'd feed him in the back yard. Because he was beautiful, I assumed he was a she (a sexist assumption on my part). After we discovered our mistake, it was too hard to think of a gender appropriate name that suited him better. We decided to keep "Sophie" and that he wouldn't care.
